Fede Gianni grew up in Rome and has been living in New York since 2009. She is a graduate of the MFA program in Film at Columbia University. Her two short films Primo (2017) and The Friend from Tel Aviv (2015) have been shown in prestigious film festivals including Palm Springs International ShortFest, Cinemed, Frameline and Outfest. Fede was awarded the Director’s Guild of America Student Film Award for 'Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Women's Category' for her short film The Friend from Tel Aviv. Primo won the IFP Audience Award and The Adrienne Shelly’s Foundation Grant for Female Directors at the 30th Columbia University Film Festival. Primo premiered online as a Vimeo ‘Staff Pick Premiere’ and was nominated as Vimeo’s Staff Pick ‘Best of the Year 2018’ in the drama category.

Fede is currently developing her first feature film Karaoke King set in the working class neighborhood of Primavalle in Rome. She is an alumni of the 2017-2018 mentorship program Queer|Art|Mentorship founded by filmmaker Ira Sachs.
