Federica Gianni grew up in Rome and has been living in New York since 2009. She is a graduate of the MFA program in Film at Columbia University.
Her two short films The Friend from Tel Aviv (2015) and Primo (2017) have been shown in prestigious film festivals including Palm Springs International ShortFest, Cinemed, Frameline and Outfest. The Friend from Tel Aviv won a DGA Award for ‘Best Student Film’ in the Women’s category, and Primo won the IFP Audience Award and the Adrienne Shelly Foundation Award for ‘Best Female Director’ at the 30th Columbia University Film Festival. Primo is a Vimeo Staff Premiere.
Federica is currently developing her first feature film Karaoke King set in the working class neighborhood of Primavalle in Rome. She is a fellow of the 2017-2018 mentorship program Queer|Art|Mentorship.
